The Moon
"Is it true that the moon is an important part of Wicca?"

Yes, for a variety of reasons. Most traditions of Wicca personify the energies of the moon as the Goddess. The moon has tangible energies that can be seen and felt as tidal rhythms. Wiccans connect and work with the energies of the moon when doing rituals.

“Drawing Down the Moon” is a ritual where the energies of the moon are drawn down into an individual, who then embodies the essence of the Goddess. The moon and Her phases are an important metaphor in our understanding of Goddess.

Traditionally, Esbats are held on full moons. (Esbats are monthly coven meetings, where the nitty-gritty business of being a coven takes place.) We meet and do rituals on full moons (when the "tides" of energy are high) but we also may do ritual on new moons (for meditations and reflection when these "tides" are turned inward).

We also follow a Sabbat (Sabbath) calendar that includes the solar holidays (Solstices & Equinoxes) as well as this lunar cycle of celebrations.
