  • Fire in the Head: Shamanism & the Celtic Spirit by Tom Cowan
This book is an excellent exploration into Shamanic practice and Celtic mythology.

Celtic Shamanism: A Handbook by John Matthews
This was the book that directly inspired me to pursue my inclinations to Shamanic practice.  I don’t consider my practice Celtic Shamanism, but the book was inspirational at the time I needed it.  It is currently out of print, so grab it if you see a used copy somewhere.

Soul Retrieval: Mending the Fragmented Self by Sandra Ingerman
An excellent exploration of the Shamanic healing practice of soul retrieval.

Shape Shifters: Shaman Women in Contemporary Society by Michele Jamal
offers personal stories of contemporary women who follow a Shamanic practice.  It offers a good perspective on Shamanic experiences and their current expressions.

Black Elk Speaks by John G. Neihardt
is a classic biography of Black Elk, an Oglala Sioux warrior and medicine man.  Speaking as Shaman, Black Elk shares his visions of the meaning of life on this planet, and the important values that make life worth living.
