A Visit from Iris
 Rainbow Goddess

I sat on a curved, white marble bench in my secret garden, facing south into the bright sun. I had filled myself with light. I was a made of light; my flesh was translucent and glowing, and my aura was a radiant sphere. I faced the southern sun, collecting and absorbing light into every pore, and cupping a sphere of sunlight in my hands.

The air shimmered before me, and a face began to form in profile. She had rainbow ribbons of light streaming from her like hair blowing in a wind, and rainbows streamed from her eyes like pennants snapping in a brisk breeze. She faced into this unfelt wind, and began to rise into it. She was riding a translucent horse, whose mane and hocks also streamed rainbow light. As they rose into the sky, a full rainbow blossomed from behind them.

I rose from my bench and touched the rainbow, and instantly my aura merged with its light. I became the rainbow, and my multi-hued awareness arced across the sky. At the crest of the arc, in the very center, stood a figure with magnificent, out-spread wings. Each hue of the rainbow was radiating from the ends of the primary wing feathers. The figure hovered in the sky with wings outstretched, forming the rainbow. Centered at the solar plexus was a brilliantly glowing white orb of energy.

I experienced some confusion, for I couldn’t tell if I was seeing myself from an outside perspective, or whether I was viewing a new aspect of the Goddess. My perspective kept shifting so that it was me standing at the crest of the arc with my hawk wings forming the rainbow, and then I was viewing this figure from the outside.

I finally returned my awareness to my body of light glowing on the bench in the garden. The Winged rainbow vision trailed down through the sky on a rainbow-hued Pegasus. With wings outspread, She merged with my form on the bench, and I realized we had always been one.

Days later, haunted by this beautiful image, I searched the internet for “Rainbow Goddess”. I learned that the Greeks knew Her long before I ever met her. Her name is Iris. She is a messenger from the Gods, and her appearance is described as I had envisioned her.
