Creating Ritual
How to Construct a Ritual
- * Decide on the purpose of the ritual.
- (What do you want to do and why)
- * Think of ways youd like to accomplish the goal of the ritual.
- * Break the ritual up into elements or sections.
- (Such as casting the Circle, invoking God/dess, smudging or censing, dedications, consecrations, raising energy, calling Watchtowers or Quarters, closing the Circle, cakes & ale, etc.)
- * Put each element into the order or sequence that they will be performed.
- (See sample that follows.)
- * Write it down in an outline.
- (Or script it out in advance if you prefer a more formalized structure.)>/DD>
- * Read it through and see if it makes sense.
- (A point often overlooked!)
- * Rearrange as necessary.
- * Go over the outline with the group,
- and make sure everyone understands each of the elements.
- * Now go and do it.
- * Talk about it after and decide what worked and what didnt,
- and see if you can figure out why each occurred. (Knowing why something worked is just as important as knowing why something didnt work.)
A Sample Outline for Group Ritual:
- * Cast Circle
- * Call Quarters
- * Invoke Deity
- * Explanation of Rite
- (Where I do a spiel about why we are gathered in this sacred space: it focuses the group mind on the goal of the ritual)
- * Raise energy
- * Send energy and ground.
- (One step. Ground immediately. Dont wait and forget this step. Its a good habit to get into.)
- * Unwind with cakes & ale.
- (This is a good time to discuss the ritual since it has just happened. After all, you are still in Sacred Space, cheek-to-cheek with the spirit world. You might get inspired!)
- * Dismiss the quarters
- * Open the Circle
