I can’t believe that it’s Lammas-tide already! It just seems like a couple of weeks ago we were celebrating Litha at midsummer. This summer is certainly speeding by, and I don’t regret for a moment that I’ve spent more time outside than inside at the computer.

This update marks a major turning point for the Firepit... I've officially exceeded the 5MB quota that comes free with my account, so I've finally had to make the decision to either strip the Firepit of the few graphics it has, or buy more server space. It was an easy decision. I'm glad to continue to offer the Firepit as an ad-free, information dense resource to the Pagan community, so I've just doubled the size of the Firepit. I now have another 5MB to play with!

With such a busy summer, this is a small update for the Firepit. I've only added a few new items, starting with a description of the solitary Lammas ritual I performed to dedicate some new magickal tools. The highlight of the summer has been attending the Sirius Rising Festival. As always, I had a wonderful time, even though I was much busier than usual coordinating several children’s events and teaching a few workshops besides. I’ve added a festival review to the Firepit this update. For those who have never been to a Pagan festival, I’ve reposted the very funny " Field Guide to Pagans" in the humor section.

In time for Lammas, I’ve completely rewritten the article on harvesting sage for smudging. It will also appear in the next edition of Elements Magazine. The weather has been good for my sage this season, and it promises to be a great harvest.

I have one new piece to add to the Commentary chapter. Titled " Here There Be Dragons", it describes the tendency of some folks to take their practice a bit *too* seriously. Have you ever met someone who called themself a "Dragon" and meant it literally? I address the problem of magickal world views feeding into and/or masking genuine mental illness.

In response to the many times I get asked the question "Where did you learn all this stuff?", I’ve taken a trip down memory lane and tried to trace back my magickal training. It’s an attempt to show how the sum of our knowledge is the result of a lifetime of experiences, and not the result of any single book or teacher.

As usual, all of these new links can be found in the right column of the front page. And don’t forget about the new "Table of Contents"! I’ve personally found it very helpful when looking for something specific.

Enjoy the rest of your summer, and I’ll see you again at Mabon!
